Dr. Michael Bornstein, Pediatric Center Richmond
Dr. Michael Bornstein

Dr. Bornstein opened his private practice in Fort Bend County in 1993. He established roots in the community and his private practice grew into the Pediatric Center in 2000.

Dr. Bornstein received a Bachelor of Arts degree with Cum Laude honors from Harvard University. He completed Boston University School of Medicine training in May of 1990. After residency, and internship at the University of California, Irvine he received his certification from the National Board of Medical Examiners, Neonatal and Pediatric Advanced Life Support, and the American Board of Pediatrics. He has hospital affiliations at Oak Bend Medical Center, Texas Children’s, Methodist Sugar Land, and Memorial Southwest. Dr. Bornstein is affiliated with many medical organizations and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics.

Dr. Bornstein is married with two sons.

Dr. Kathleen Knoebel, Pediatric Center Katy
Dr. Kathleen Knoebel

Dr. Kathleen Knoebel has been a valued associate at Pediatric Center since 1998. She received a B.S. in Biology in 1991 from Yale University in New Haven, CT. Dr. Knoebel received her Medical Degree in June of 1995 from Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia, PA. She completed her residency at Baylor College of Medicine in June of 1998. She has staff privileges at Oak Bend Medical Center, Texas Children’s, Methodist Sugar Land and Memorial Southwest. Dr. Knoebel received her board certification from the American Board of Pediatrics in 1998. Dr. Knoebel specializes in General Pediatrics and Level II nursery responsibilities.

She is a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics.

Dr. Knoebel has one son and resides in Sugar Land.

Dr. Shefali Patel, Pediatric Center Richmond
Dr. Shefali Patel

Dr. Shefali Patel was a great addition to Pediatric Center with her much anticipated arrival in 2006. After a time receiving her education and training in California, she is happy to be back to the Houston area, which she formerly called home. Dr. Patel graduated with honors from the University of California, Los Angeles. She received her Medical Degree from Western University of Health Sciences in 2002 and completed her Pediatric Residency at the University of California, Irvine. Dr. Patel has staff affiliations with Oak Bend Medical Center, Texas Children’s, Methodist Sugar Land and Memorial Southwest. She is Board Certified in Pediatrics and is a member of the American Medical Association, American Osteopathic Association and the American Academy of Pediatrics. Dr. Patel is fluent in English, Spanish and Gujarati.

Dr. Patel lives in Sugar Land with her husband, two daughters and one son.

Dr. Dahotre, Pediatric Center
Dr. Shruti Dahotre

Dr. Dahotre has been with the Pediatric Center since August 2022. She is from Denton, TX, and went to the University of Texas at Austin where she studied biology. She attended McGovern Medical School and then completed her pediatric residency at Emory School of Medicine. She is a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics.

When she is not at work, she enjoys spending time with friends & family, traveling, hiking, and trying out new restaurants.

Amber Jarrell, Pediatric Center
Dr. Amber Jarrell

Dr. Amber Jarrell is a native of Baton Rouge, LA. She recently relocated to Houston, TX to further pursue her career in pediatrics. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Southern University and A&M College in Baton Rouge, LA. Dr. Jarrell earned her medical doctorate from Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center in New Orleans, LA. She completed her pediatric residency from Our Lady of the Lake Children’s Hospital in Baton Rouge, LA where she served as the Primary Care Track Chief Resident. Dr. Jarrell enjoys promoting and maintaining the health and well-being of children from birth through adolescences. She has a special interest in childhood obesity as she has conducted research, received grants, and presented lectures regarding pediatric obesity. When not immersed in medicine, she enjoys exploring new restaurants, attending Orange Theory Fitness classes, and Pediatrics and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, Dr. Amber Jarrell embodies the spirit of compassionate care and community engagement.

Dr. Hina Rehman, Pediatric Center
Dr. Hina Rehman

Dr. Rehman was born and raised in the Houston area. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Houston. She earned her medical degree from McGovern Medical School in Houston and then completed her pediatric residency at the University of Oklahoma Children’s Hospital. She is board-certified in Pediatrics and a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics.

In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her family, cooking, and traveling.

Carol Preston, Carol Preston CPNP
Carol Preston, CPNP

Carol Preston started at Pediatric Center in February of 2007. Originally from Boston, Massachusetts, she now calls Texas her home. Carol received her B.S. from the University of Phoenix and graduated with her Pediatric Nurse Practioner license from Saint Louis University. Her residency was done at various hospitals and practices around the country. While attending school she was inducted into Sigma Theta Tau honor Society and graduated in the top 4% in the country.

Carol is now alumni of Sigma Theta Tau as well as a member of the National Association of Pediatric Nurse Practioners (NAPNAP) Carol is a mother of two and resides in Richmond.

Sophia Boateng, FNP-C, Pediatric Center Sugar Land
Sophia Boateng, FNP-C

Sophia Boateng started working at Pediatric Center in January 2016. She obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing at Texas Woman’s University in 2005 with honors (Cum Laude). In 2012 Sophia earned a Master of Science degree in Family Nurse Practitioner. Sophia has worked mainly with the pediatric population since she graduated from the Family Nurse Practitioner program. She is a member of Sigma Theta Tau honor society and American Association of Nurse Practitioners. Sophia has worked mostly with the pediatric population since her graduation from the Family Nurse Practitioner program. She speaks French, English, Spanish, and her native language from Ghana.

Erica Brobbey, FNP-BC

Erica Brobbey, MSN, APRN, FNP-BC has practiced nursing for over 10 years. She became nationally board certified as a Family Nurse Practitioner after graduating with honors with a Master of Science degree from the University of Wisconsin. Erica has since received additional specialized Post Master’s training in Emergency Medicine and Trauma Care from the University of Texas Health Science Center.

Originally from the midwest, Erica is now proud to call Texas her home and resides in Richmond with her husband and two sons.

Gurpreet Kaur, FNP-C
Gurpreet Kaur, FNP-C

Gurpreet Kaur, FNP-C is originally from India, but has been raised in California and Texas. Prior to joining Pediatric Center, she was a nurse for 8 years with her main focus being in adult ICU. She graduated with her Bachelors of Science in Nursing from Texas Womans University in the Houston Medical Center. She returned to school for her Masters of Science – Family Nurse Practitioner and graduated from Walden University and gained national accreditation thereafter. She speaks Punjabi, Hindi, and Urdu.

Gurpreet resides in Richmond with her husband and two sons. In her spare time, she loves to travel, cook, bake, read, and dance.

Lindsey Pickrel, Physician Assistant, Pediatric Center
Lindsey Pickrel, PA-C

Lindsey is a Board Certified Physician Assistant that has been with our practice since 2013. She is a graduate of Texas A&M University with a Bachelor’s degree in Biology and earned her Master’s degree in Physician Assistant studies at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio.

Her favorite thing to do is spend time with her husband and 2 children. In her spare time, she enjoys singing in her church choir, baking, writing, running, and anything to do with Disney. Lindsey resides in Richmond and loves serving the community.

Christina Placker PA-C, Pediatric Center
Christina Placker, PA-C

Christina is a Board Certified Physician Assistant and joined Pediatric Center in December 2021. She comes to us with 9 years of clinical experience in Orthopedics and Allergy. She is a graduate of Texas A&M University with a Bachelors in Biomedical Science and earned her Masters in Physician Assistant Studies at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio.

Christina, her husband, and son enjoy traveling and hiking in our State parks. In her spare time she also enjoys tending to her garden, reading, crocheting, and baking.

Dr. Robert Bornstein

Please join the providers and staff of Pediatric Center in honoring the retirement of Robert Bornstein, M.D.  After lengthy consideration and much discussion with his family, Dr. Bob has decided to hang up his stethoscope.  The “Original” Dr. Bornstein has practiced pediatric medicine for over 60 years.  His vast experience, kind heart, and beaming personality will be deeply missed by colleagues, staff, and his adoring patients. 

Dr. Bob is a Board Certified pediatrician who cared for patients in Massachusetts from 1961 until his recent move to Texas. As a youth, Dr. Bob was an extraordinary student who graduated high school at sixteen and college at nineteen. He attended Brandeis University as an undergraduate and earned his medical degree from Tufts University School of Medicine. Dr. Bob completed his internship and residency at the New England Medical Center and Boston Floating Hospital where he earned the highly regarded position of Chief Resident.

He was a Commissioned officer in the army where he cared for military families in Virginia.
